Sir,

Resident Engineer's Office,

221, Telok Blangah Road,

Singapore, 10th April, 1935.

HONG KONG - FERRY LANDINGS.

I have the honour to inform you that, in accordance with your letter (8/1510/25), dated the 24th December last,

Mr. A. Anderson, Engineer-in-Charge, met me on my passage through Hong Kong in the S. S. "Naldera" on the 27th December and conducted me over the ferry landings which had formed the subject of previous correspondence with my firm.

2. On my return through Hong Kong on the 5th April

I made, in accordance with your letter (8/1510/1925) of the 25th January, a further inspection of these landings with Mr. Anderson. I was also afforded the opportunity of discussing

various points in connection therewith with representatives of the Company who are operating the ferry service, and am now in a position to submit the following observations.

3. In my opinion, the general lay-outs of the landings

at Jubilee Street and Jordan Road have been well devised.

Occasionally, when several craft are lying abreast at the Admiralty Oiling Berth south-east of the Jordan Road landing, extra care must be exercised by the ferries in approaching that landing, but I consider it would have been unwise to have eliminated this minor and occasional difficulty by giving the landing a more westerly aspect, owing to the increased exposure to which it would in that case have been

subjected.
